The Condo Book How to Avoid Getting Burned When Buying and Living in a Home Within a Community Association David Schwindt 9781582705828 Books Reviews

Sure there are other books out there on the subject, but David Schwindt's book stands out. The Condo Book covers every aspect of living in an association. I found the information to be current, thorough, and best of all, easy to understand. There are several short chapters making it simple for the reader to jump around to the material most useful to their needs. Each chapter has a Chapter Takeways section restating it's key points-USEFUL! I highly recommend The Condo Book to prospective buyers AND current owners of a home in a community association. There is so much more to living in a condo than many of us are aware, and this book will provide you the knowledge and the confidence to do so.
Written by a guy who hasn’t managed a single association in his life, and who isn’t a lawyer, he’s got plenty of managerial and legal advice to dish out. Moreover, the writing is overly technical and far too dense for the average reader. There are better books on the subject.
I ordered this from the author, rather than . This book is a fascinating and approachable introduction to HOAs and community associations. I never would have thought to ask any of the questions presented by the author, if I hadn't read the book. Great read, and the pages flew by! I highly recommend it to anyone interested in condo/communal living.
Thinking about buying a condo - DON'T - until you read this book. Too late to take that advice, then you really need to read this book to learn just what you have gotten yourself into! OK, condo living does have many advantages, but you need to recognize how to tell the difference between a condo that will deliver on your dreams of maintenance free living and one that will be a headache that never ends and subjects you to potential financial ruin. Dave's book will equip you to ask the right questions before you buy and to get a feel for the association that manages your condo. It is also a must read for every board member of your association. You could do worse than buy copies for your board members and present them as a gift and to serve notice that someone is informed and watching their decisions. The author is a professional in the field and writes in an easy to understand manner with emphasis on common sense.
Buying a home is the largest investment most people will make in their lifetime. A condominium (and to a great extent, a townhome) introduces one to far more complexity than the average buyer realizes, and without some guide the buyer does not even know what questions to ask, where to find information that is not automatically provided during the sales process, and how to understand what the information provided actually means. This book outlines the myriad of issues a purchaser needs to be investigating, provides short notes at the end of each chapter covering key points and resources, and is the only source which takes the potential purchaser through the labyrinth of condo ownership. The author is a recognized expert on the financial aspects of condominiums and has lectured and co-paneled with attorneys, community managers, and vendors serving the condo communities for decades. Having sold real estate for seven years and having practiced law, I highly recommend it to anyone considering such a purchase.
Excellent overview of things to know and what to ask when considering a condo purchase. Worth the cost and the time to read it. Excellent resource
The writing is dense and unapproachable, I had to read the same sentence multiple times to get its meaning. It felt way too formal. I regret buying this book because while it seems to have a lot of helpful info, I can't get over the stodgy and belabored tone.
Was recommended to me by a friend to get this book to learn more about condos and boy am I glad I did. The book was incredibly informative and insightful in understanding what to look for when buying a condo. Each chapter is nicely summarized and establishes key points. When the book addresses every parties involved and touch upon the accounting aspect of condos, you know the person has spent a great deal within the industry. I highly recommend this book if you want to learn more about condos before buying one.
